Diffraction from anisotropic random rough surfaces

چکیده
The diffraction beam from an anisotropic, random, rough surface is investigated. Two kinds of anisotropic surfaces with either a correlation-length anisotropy or a scaling anisotropy are considered. For the correlationlength anisotropic surface with an isotropic scaling, the shape of the diffraction beam directly reflects the surface anisotropy under any diffraction condition. However, for the correlation-length anisotropic surface with an anisotropic scaling, the anisotropic scaling exponents may alter the anisotropy in the diffraction beam shape, sometimes even rotating the direction of anisotropy as the diffraction condition q'w changes. Here q' and w are the momentum transfer perpendicular to the surface and the interface width, respectively. This result demonstrates that one must be cautious when analyzing anisotropic diffraction beams. These results also provide a way to differentiate experimentally the correlation length anisotropy from the scaling anisotropy in anisotropic rough surfaces. @S0163-1829~98!03935-6#

Diffraction from non-Gaussian rough surfaces
Most diffraction theories for random rough surfaces are based on the assumption of a Gaussian height distribution. In this paper, a diffraction theory for non-Gaussian rough surfaces is developed and the relationship between the roughness parameters and the diffraction characteristics is explored. It is shown that a non-Gaussian rough surface can dramatically alter the diffraction for (k'w) @1,...
متن کاملCharacterization of random rough surfaces by in-plane light scattering
The reciprocal space structures of Si backside rough surfaces were studied using an in-plane light scattering technique. A diode array detector was used to collect the angular distribution of the scattered intensity. The diffraction profiles are interpreted based on the theory of diffraction from a self-affine rough surface. Roughness parameters such as interface width, lateral correlation leng...

The discrimination of the scattered wave from an object buried in shallow ground from that of the rough surface is a difficult task with present ground penetrating radar (GPR) systems. Recently, a new approach for this classical problem has been proposed and its effectiveness has been verified. This new method is based on the angular correlation function (ACF) of the scattered wave observed at ...
متن کاملStatistical multiple diffuse scattering from rough surfaces in RHEED - beyond the distorted-wave Born approximation
In reflection high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED) of growing surfaces in molecular beam epitaxy (MBE), diffuse scattering is generated by atom vibrations, point vacancies and growth islands (or surface roughness). Most of the existing RHEED theories have been developed under the first-order diffuse scattering approximation, and thus they are restricted for surfaces whose roughness is relat...
متن کاملDiffraction from stepped surfaces in thermal equilibrium
We have performed Monte Carlo simulations of the diffraction from simple two-dimensional models of vicinal surfaces in order to aid interpretation of measured diffraction profiles. At low temperature, we find the sharp diffraction features predicted from the analogy of stepped surfaces with two-dimensional incommensurate phases. These sharp features vanish only near the roughening temperature o...
